American Airlines to Set Science Based Targets to Reduce Emissions

August 26, 2021 — American Airlines has announced intentions to set science-based targets for reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 2035. American aims to reach net-zero by 2050, and the science-based targets will be their first effort to achieve that. The Science-Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) is a collaborative effort between CDP, the United Nations Global Compact, World Resources Institute, and the World Wide Fund for Nature. American’s plan to reach net-zero by 2050 also includes fleet renewal, investing in sustainable aviation fuel, and improving operational efficiency.
