UK Launches Competition to Develop SAF Technology

March 24, 2021 —The United Kingdom (UK) is close to launching a new £15 million competition that will support the development of facilities that will convert waste into sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) to help meet the goal of net zero-emissions in the aviation sector. The competition, called the Green Fuel, Green Skies competition, is part of the Prime Minister’s 10 point plan to support UK companies as they develop cutting-edge technologies to convert household rubbish, waste wood, and excess electricity into SAF. It is projected that these projects will create a more sustainable path for the aviation sector as well as create over 11,000 new jobs in the coming years. Companies will be able to bid for a share of the funding to start their development of SAF production plants in the UK.

More information on the competition can be found here.
