CAAFI Focus Areas & The SAF Grand Challenge
CAAFI's Specific Role:
CAAFI’s focus areas have been consistent since its establishment in 2006. The efforts in these areas have always been complementary to SAF goals set by industry and U.S. government agencies. CAAFI was formed shortly after the implementation of the 2005 Energy Policy Act that aimed to promote energy production from various sources, including renewable energy.

CAAFI works with our public, private, and non-governmental sector stakeholders in support of achieving industry and U.S. government objectives. These objectives are often laid out in guiding documents, initiatives, or plans. CAAFI develops resources that support knowledge dissemination and communication about SAF and organizes, leads, or advises activities to advance industry and government goals. Most recently, the work plan of CAAFI was informed by and aligned with the U.S. Sustainable Aviation Fuel Grand Challenge. A timeline showing the various government actions in support of SAF development is below.
