Biennial General Meeting

Reception June 2

At the MIT Museum

Plenary Event June 3 - 4

Optional FTOT Training June 5

At the U.S. DOT Volpe National Transportation Systems Center

The CAAFI® Biennial General Meeting (CBGM) is a critical convening event to connect sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) stakeholders across global industries and sectors and provides a venue to share information and showcase technologies.  CAAFI is a public-private partnership of airlines, aircraft and engine manufacturers, energy producers, researchers, international participants and U.S. government agencies. Its goal is to promote the development and deployment of SAF that provide equivalent safety and performance, favorable costs, and are better for the environment compared with petroleum-based jet fuel, while offering energy supply security for aviation.  The CBGM enables CAAFI’s diverse participants – representing all the leading stakeholders in the field of aviation – to build relationships, share best practices and data, identify resources, and direct research, development and deployment of alternative jet fuels.

The anticipated session topics include:

  • Progress and accomplishments in SAF production and supply chain development

  • Certification and qualification of new synthetic aviation turbine fuels

  • The economic, energy security, competitiveness and environmental value proposition of SAF

  • Current policy and policy research

  • A community vision for future direction

The CAAFI team welcomes your participation in our Biennial General Meeting!

Optional Event Additions

Monday, June 2 MIT Museum event

On June 2, 6 - 8:30 pm - CAAFI will host an Opening Reception at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Museum, Cambridge, MA.  We hope you will join us!  When registering please indicate if you anticipate attending.

Tuesday, June 3 Red Sox event

On June 3, CAAFI is aware there is a Red Sox game on Tuesday evening at 7:10 pm and is exploring the potential to host discounted attendance at the game.  If successfully organized, space will be constrained.  In order for us to plan appropriately, please check “yes” when registering if you have a strong interest in attending such an event.

Thursday, June 5 FTOT Training

The Volpe Center has developed the free, open-source Freight and Fuel Transportation Optimization Tool (FTOT) in support of FAA (with additional support from DOE and ONR). FTOT is a flexible scenario-testing tool that optimizes the transportation of materials for future energy and freight scenarios. FTOT models and tracks commodity-specific information and can take into account conversion of raw materials to products (e.g., crude oil to jet fuel and diesel) and the fulfillment of downstream demand. A video providing an overview of FTOT can be found on the landing page. An informational flyer can be found here.  FTOT is being used to analyze SAF and alternative fuel scenarios in support of FAA, ASCENT, and DOE, as well as being used by academic and private sector users. The Volpe FTOT team will be offering a half-day training session after the CAAFI meeting on June 5, 9 am-noon.  This will be a hands-on session with optional prework to install FTOT to use your computer in the workshop.
